It was a heartbreaking loss to in-state rival Georgia, who has dominated Georgia Tech on the football field over the past decade, including winning the last five matchups. The Bulldogs also own a 64-39 advantage all-time (with five ties). With the first meeting coming in 1893 and the tradition of “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” still living on to this day, it was a horrible way to end the 2013 campaign.
Now with the regular season over and the Yellow Jackets finishing with a mediocre record of 7-5, going 5-3 in the ACC, Georgia Tech will finish 4th in the ACC Coastal division. It was surprising to some that Duke was able to win the Coastal this season even with Georgia Tech handling them earlier in the year. The Jackets thankfully escaped the powerhouse that is known as Florida State this year.
Next up will be a bowl game – unfortunately not the BCS bowl or other major game fans were hoping for. And after that?
The Jackets will take on a different look next season, with about 20 seniors leaving the team after the bowl game is over, and hopefully a couple being drafted relatively early in the draft. The senior class is led by All-American DE Jeremiah Attaochu, who has been such a force on defense this year, finishing the year off with a nice showing against Georgia and totaling up his stats for the year at 12 sacks with 40 total tackles with 33 of those being solo tackles.
Another star that should be drafted, is David Sims. David Sims is the type of guy you can find all over the field. He can play fullback, he can take the handoff you can even pitch it to him outside and he can cut the corner and make something out of nothing. His season stats ended at an impressive 846 yards with 11 touchdowns.
Next season should be interesting, there could be a coaching change. Justin Thomas may even take over at QB, or Vad Lee could grow into what everyone knows he can grow into it. It will just be an interesting wait until next season starts and the Swarm can start-up again and shoot for the top.
