Georgia Tech DE Jeremiah Attaochu made his presence known to the Georgia Bulldogs this past week, and by doing so, once again made his name come up in the minds of the media. Attaochu was honored Monday as the ACC’s Defensive Lineman of the Week. The honor follows him being also named to the 2013 All-ACC Football team.
With his career-high four sacks against Georgia, Attaochu tied Georgia Tech’s career sacks record, totaling eight tackles and breaking up as pass in the double overtime heartbreaking loss by the Jackets.
His fourth sack of Georgia quarterback Hutson Mason brought the senior defensive end into a tie with former Yellow Jacket defensive standout Greg Gathers (1999-02) for the career record. Attaochu can break the record in Tech’s bowl appearance this year.
With 12.0 sacks this season, Attaochu is tied for the ACC lead with Clemson’s Vic Beasley, and he currently leads all active FBS players with 31.0 career sacks, which ranks him fifth all-time in the ACC record books.
Attaochu is highly regarded as Tech’s top NFL prospect, and is being touted as a first to second round pick by many experts. His growth this season under defensive coordinator Ted Roof has been impressive, and he played the type of game that everyone knew he had the potential of doing. With a premium on pass rushers who can not only come from the edge but also attack up the middle, Attaochu will be on the radar of a lot of NFL teams.
The award is the third of Attaochu’s career and the seventh won by the Yellow Jackets this season:
