National Signing Day was just a week ago, but that doesn’t mean is isn’t to soon to start talking about who Paul Johnson and his staff need to look at closely for next year’s class. There will be some needs to address next season for the Georgia Tech recruiting staff, and since the recruiting job is never-ending, it’s best to start looking now.
There will be several top running backs leaving the Flats after next season (B.J. Bostic, Synjyn Days and Charles Perkins among others), as well as a couple of key wide receivers (DeAndre Smelter, Darren Waller). On defense, there are a couple of defensive linemen who are scheduled to graduate, but the linebacker corps will take some big hits to graduation (Quayshawn Nealy, Kyle Travis, Tremayne McNair).
While there are plenty of 5-Star recruits out there who could easy end up on Georgia Tech’s wish-list, it’s just not practical to focus on them. As much as Yellow Jacket fans would love to see some of them sign at Tech, it’s probably just not going to happen unless there is just some very odd or extraneous circumstance to make that happen.
However, Paul Johnson has shown that he can get 4-star prospects to come to Tech, and there are plenty of top players out there who fall into that category. This is a very early list of five players within the three to four-star ranks who would be a good fit, and who may even have Georgia Tech on their radar.
