Georgia Tech Gives Maximum Effort, But Falls Short Against Notre Dame

It was the same old song for Brian Gregory‘s Yellow Jackets, and it seems to matter not if they are at home or on the road, the effort will be evident but the end result does not go in Tech’s favor. Once again this was the case in the 65-62 Georgia Tech loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (15-14, 6-10 ACC).

The Jackets played very well overall. Georgia Tech (13-15, 4-11 ACC) actually had a good day shooting the ball from deep, going 10 of 19 (52.6 percent) from downtown, and even turned the rock over only six times during the entire game.

The problem Tech had was that that they simply could not stop Notre Dame center Garrick Sherman, who was just a beast on the interior with 21 points on 10 of 15 shooting form the floor. Erick Atkins, who scored 17 points and hit 4 of 7 from deep, was also tough to deal with for the Jackets.

Trae Golden was nowhere to be found in this game for the Jackets, going 0 for 10 from the floor and not logging a single point. When a team’s leading scoring puts up a stat line like that, you would expect more than just a 3-point loss.

Robert Carter Jr., however, was pretty strong in this game with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds including hitting 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. Two of those treys came in the clutch with under two minutes left to play in the contest to make the game close (unfortunately, the two open looks he got as time was expiring didn’t find the bucket). Chris Bolden was a perfect 3 of 3 from three-point land and finished the game with nine points.

The Jackets played a strong game. They took care of the ball, shot well from three-point land, and were really in a position to get themselves a huge road win in South Bend, but once again the ball did not bounce their way. Next up for Tech is a road tilt against the Florida State Seminoles. Maybe Tech will be able to put it all together and get back in the win column in Tallahassee.
