Georgia Tech women’s basketball senior Tyaunna Marshall was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press on Tuesday. This comes after a spectacular final season on the Flats for Tech’s all-time leading scorer.

“Ty Marshall is one of the most unrated and underappreciated players in the country,” head coach MaChelle Joseph told RamblinWreck.com. “She has made a career of surpassing everyone’s expectations. I am excited that she has been recognized by the AP as an honorable mention All-American. She is very deserving of this honor.”

Marshall has garnered so many honors and broken so many records during her time at Georgia Tech, it’s almost hard to keep track. She was the consummate team leader, and was a player who gave a complete effort in every game, start to finish.

On top of this All-American honor, Marshall was named to the All-ACC First Team, ACC All-Defensive Team and the Georgia College Women’s Player of the Year, awarded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Stats for Marshall during her senior season were off the charts, becoming the all-time leading scorer in school history and the first Lady Jacket to score over 2,000 career points – finishing with 2,129 points. She led the Jackets in scoring this season, with 19.6 points per game, in rebounding with 7.6 rebounds per game and steals with 2.7 steals per game. Her 19.6 ppg ranks third in the ACC while she is 10th in rebounding and first in steals. [Source: RamblinWreck.com]

The early exit from both the ACC women’s tournament and the NCAA tournament were tough ways for Marshall to go out, but her leadership set an example that young stars like freshman Kaela Davis will have to model themselves after for years to come.

From all of us at YellowJackedUp, thanks for being one of the greatest Yellow Jackets ever, Tyaunna. We salute you.
