Zach Giella is one of the state of Georgia’s best offensive line prospect for the class of 2015, and he’s paying a visit to Georgia Tech this weekend according to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder from Augusta Christian high currently has 21 scholarship offers, and is rated as state’s No. 65 overall prospect. This would be a huge get for the Jackets if he can be swayed to commit to Tech.
Right now Giella has LSU, Clemson and Ole Miss as his top choices, but Tech is far from out of the running thanks to a connection with Jackets offensive line coach Mike Sewak
“My oldest brother played football for Coach Sewak at Georgia Southern. We’ve known Sewak for a while. It’s good to get back in touch with him and everything. He’s a good guy, funny and everything. He’s easy to get along with. The whole staff seems to be like that, so that is great. And Georgia Tech is close to home, so that’s really great, too.”
With Georgia only showing a mild interest in Giella, this is a chance for the Jackets to make a big impression and land yet another 3-star (probably moving up to 4) prospect for the 2015 recruiting class.
Scouts love his athleticism and ability to move along the line when pulling, a perfect fit for the Jackets. He’s also got exceptional pass-blocking skills, with great footwork. The only knocks on Giella right now deal with increasing strength and power, both of which will eventually come with a serious weight training program.
Look for the Jackets to move up on Giella’s hot list after this weekend if things go well.
