Georgia Tech lands no. 8 seed, will play Wake Forest in ACC tourney opener

Georgia Tech (32-24-0, 14-16-0) caught a break and a nod from the gods, and has earned the No. 8-seed in the 2014 ACC Baseball Championship.

The Yellow Jackets will face No. 9-seed Wake Forest (30-25-0, 15-15-0) Tuesday at 3 p.m. at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro.

Danny Hall’s Jackets finished the ACC slate by losing three straight to the top-ranked Virginia Cavaliers, but a couple of conference losses by NC State helped bump Tech up into position to be included in the championship tournament.

Should the Jackets get past the Demon Deacons, they will enter Pool A with No. 1 Miami, No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Clemson.

Tech was 1-2 against Wake this season, dropping the first two games of a March three-game series 9-2 and 12-8, winning the third game 5-1.

Tech’s game Tuesday will air live on the ACC’s regional sports networks, including Fox Sports South, and ESPN3.
