Former Georgia Tech QB Joe Hamilton selected for College Football Hall of Fame

One of the greatest players ever to wear a Georgia Tech uniform is now being recognized as one of the greatest players to ever cast his shadow on a college football field, as Tech’s Joe Hamilton has been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the National Football Foundation, with the induction ceremony to come later in the year.

Hamilton was the Yellow Jackets’ quarterback from 1996-1999 and was the 1999 Heisman Trophy runner-up, finishing behind only Wisconsin running back Ron Dayne. He was one of 75 former players on the ballot, and is one of 14 players and two coaches who were selected for the class of 2014.

In an interview with RamblinWreck.com, Hamilton made the following statement about his selection:

“I am humbled and honored to be selected in this class, along with some of the greatest players in college football history. I want to thank God. I am grateful that I was surrounded by really talented teammates and great coaches. I also want to thank all of the Georgia Tech family.”

Hamilton is the 13th player in Georgia Tech history and the 18th person overall associated with Yellow Jacket football to be elected into the Hall of Fame, per the Georgia Tech Athletic dept.
