Anthony Morrow Signs Deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder

Anthony Morrow, who played for the Yellow Jackets from 2004-2008, just became a little bit richer during this NBA offseason.  It has been reported by Yahoo Sports in an article by Marc J. Spears that Morrow has signed a 3-year/$10 million deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Morrow is going to add some nice depth to OKC’s bench. He has built a reputation in the league of being a deadeye three-point shooter and will be a useful weapon for the Thunder to utilize next season.

Last season Morrow averaged 8.4 ppg shooting 45.8% from the floor and 45.1% from downtown. He is going to serve as a spot up shooter for OKC, and is someone that defenses are not going to want to sag off of when Russell Westbrook penetrates and draws defenders or when 2013-14 NBA MVP Kevin Durant draws attention when he has the ball in his hand.

The Oklahoma City Thunder shot slightly above the league average for three-point shooting last year knocking the trey down at a 36.1% clip. The league average for treys last season was 36%. All Anthony Morrow is going to do is enhance that number for the Thunder next season.

The question is will Morrow be a starter for the Thunder next season since OKC lost the services of Thabo Sefolosha this summer?Sefolosha signed a 3-year/$12 million deal to play with the Atlanta Hawks.  Another question is will Morrow come off the bench while OKC goes with the backcourt of Reggie Jackson and Russell Westbrook next season? OKC has talked about moving Westbrook to the two-guard and starting Reggie Jackson at the point guard spot for 2014.

Either way, Anthony Morrow is going to be on a team that will be contending for an NBA title next year, and the Thunder did not make it a secret that they wanted to obtain the services of Morrow. Oklahoma City got their man, and Morrow needs to prepare himself to play some meaningful basketball stating this fall.
