Chesson Hadley needed to shoot a solid round of golf and put himself in the mix at TPC Boston after the up-and-down performance he had at The Barclay that saw him actually lose ground in the Fed Ex Cup standings.
On Friday, after Round 1 was completed, Hadley had done just that after shooting a 5-under-66. That score puts Hadley three shots off the leader Ryan Palmer who is at 8-under-par.
If it were not for the 5th Hole on the front nine, Hadley would have shot a bogey free round. The former Tech golfer was very pleased with his round and knows that he has to keep the momentum going on Saturday.
In his interview after the round, he broke down his near flawless round of gold for pgatour.com:
Hadley fell back in the Fed Ex Cup Standings from 72nd to 84th and really needs a good showing in order to stick around in the Fed Ex Playoffs. Knocking down six birdies in his opening round is a very nice way to start.
Hadley is not the only Yellow Jacket factoring into the leaderboard in Boston.
Matt Kuchar, who came into The Deutsche Bank Championship No.4 in the Fed Ex Cup Point Standings shot 2-under-par 69 and currently sits tied for 17th. Kuchar’s round was pretty steady except for the hiccup on the par-4 10th Hole where he bogeyed.
Stewart Cink shot an Even round 71 on the day with five bogeys and five birdies.
Finally, Cameron Tringale had a rough go of it in round one shooting 1-over-par 72 on Friday.
He might have had a slight let down after being in contention at The Barclays and just falling short.
Tringale bogeyed the 3rd Hole and double-bogeyed the 6th and 12th Holes. He did have a bright spot when he drained a 19-foot putt on the 4th Hole as seen courtesy of pgatour.com:
