It’s day eight of Georgia Tech’s search for their next head football coach and it seems that the search could be coming to end soon.

Ken Whisenhunt:

Obviously, according to reports Ken Whisenhunt was offered the job on Tuesday and was given a 48-hour time frame to decide. At this point, it seems that at least some portion of those reports are not true. As of Thursday at 11 p.m, there has been no decision made by Ken Whisenhunt, if he was offered the job, Obviously, it’s a fluid situation and if he was offered the job, the news could come at any second. Perhaps this could mean that Georgia Tech will be moving on from Ken Whisenhunt if we don’t hear anything the rest of the day.

Stansbury set to interview other candidates

Last night, the always reliable Ken Sugiura of the AJC reported that Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury will be interviewing more candidates. According to his report, Stansbury was set to interview another five or six candidates and that the coaching search could go on as long as another week. It will be interesting to see who interviews for the job if Stansbury truly does interview another five to six candidates.

Collins met with Stansbury:

The report itself is behind a paywall unfortunately so unless you’re a 247Sports VIP member, you won’t be able to read it. That being said, the headline says it all. Todd Stansbury has met with Temple head coach Geoff Collins.

Collins has been a hot name over the last few days in the coaching search among both non-paywall sites and paywall sites. Collins is a defensive-oriented head coach which means he would need to either bring his current offensive coordinator Dave Patenaude or find a new offensive coordinator. He’s 15-10 over his two seasons with the Temple Owls including an 8-4 record this season.

Coaching Search coming to an end?

This is an interesting report that would seem to contradict the idea that Stansbury was going to interview five or six more candidates. If the coaching search could be coming to an end this quickly, it would make it seem that there are two probable candidates for now. Ken Whisenhunt and Geoff Colllins. There’s been silence around Whisenhunt the last few days while Geoff Collins has been a hot name. Is there a mystery candidate? If you have access to Rival’s Georgia Tech site, you can find out. We don’t and even if we did, we couldn’t tell you.
