Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is no longer a candidate for the Georgia Tech head coaching job.

Georgia Tech’s next head football coach will not be Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Whisenhunt has withdrawn his name from his consideration.

Whisenhunt was considered the front-runner for the job since Paul Johnson announced he was stepping down last Wednesday. It was reported on Tuesday that Johnson received an offer but all was quiet since then.

Now that Whisenhunt has withdrawn his name, a potential front-runner to look out for is Temple head coach Geoff Collins who has been a hot name in the search as of the last few days. Yesterday, it was reported that Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury met with Collins on Wednesday as well as the fact that Stansbury was preparing to interview 5-to-6 more candidates. You can read all of the updates heading into this afternoon, here.

Whisenhunt was an unpopular candidate among fans and was considered a bad fit for the program by many, including us here at Yellow Jacked Up. But that is no longer a potential problem in the Yellow Jackets’ search for their next head football coach.

While Todd Stansbury and the Georgia Tech athletic department looks for the next head football coach, Paul Johnson will be readying his team up for one last game as the Jackets are slated to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers on December 26th in the Quick Lane Bowl.
