One way to grow a strong recruiting class is by identifying talent early, the Georgia Tech coaching staff has done just that with 2022 quarterback Chad Mascoe.

Starting the recruiting process early is always important when trying to land top recruits. The Georgia Tech coaching staff on Saturday identified and offered one of those top recruits in 2022 quarterback Chad Mascoe. The offer appears to come while Mascoe was visiting Georgia Tech on Monday.

Mascoe, a pro-style quarterback per 247Sports is out of Thomasville (GA) and Thomasville High School. The freshman put together a strong freshman season according to MaxPreps, Mascoe complete 59% of his passes (156-for-263) for 2,253 yards, 21 touchdown passes, and eight interceptions.

Mascoe is the second 2022 recruit the Jackets have offered so far, joining Westlake (Atlanta, GA) defensive end Horace Lockett. Mascoe holds 10 other scholarship offers including Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, and Tennessee. The early favorite according to 247Sports is Florida State.

Mascoe stands at 6-foot-0 and 180-pounds according to his 247Sports profile putting him on the smaller side of the traditional desired size for a quarterback. That being said, Mascoe still has three years to develop physically and certainly could add size to his frame. Even if not, we’re in a college football era in which smaller quarterbacks can easily succeed as we recently saw with Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray.

Before the Jackets can start focusing on the 2022 recruiting class and Chad Mascoe, they must finish out the 2019 recruiting class and get started on the 2020 recruiting class. The Jackets recently received a commitment from 2019 linebacker Cornelius Evans and will look to potentially add another commitment or two before National Signing Day on February 6th.
