Next up in our spring game players to watch is a true freshman wide receiver in Tampa, Florida native Ahmarean Brown.

Georgia Tech wide receivers haven’t been a focal point of the offense in over a decade but in 2019 that is set to change. The Yellow Jackets in 2019 will throw the ball well over 300 times, if not 400 times. The Jackets will need to find their set of wide receivers and one wideout that seems to be in a great spot to make an impact is true freshman Ahmarean Brown.

The Tampa, Florida native is the definition of a “deep threat”  as he has phenomenal speed that can take the top of any defense. A great candidate to be a top slot option in the Jackets offense this upcoming season, Brown has a chance to make an immediate impact.

His first step in making that potential immediate impact begins next Friday in the Yellow Jackets 2019 spring game. Brown will have the chance to show the coaching staff and fans just what he has in his skill set and repertoire. Brown came into the program this winter at 5-foot-10 and 160-pounds but now with a full winter and spring worth of training and conditioning under his belt, it will be interesting to see where Brown is up to weight wise and how much bigger he is muscular.

Brown won’t be the only wide receiver worth watching on Saturday but with his potential, he may be the most intriguing player to watch. We know he has the speed but we’ll be close attention to his overall route running and most importantly how his hands are when it comes to making catches. You can have all the speed and be a great route runner but if you can’t catch the ball, it doesn’t matter.

Coming into his time on The Flats, Brown by all reports had great hands, this will be his first chance to prove it in front of more than just the coaching staff. Georgia Tech’s spring game is scheduled for next Friday, April 26th at Bobby Dodd Stadium. It will be the first time, that Geoff Collins takes the field as the Yellow Jackets head coach.
