Top 2021 recruiting target Kamar Wilcoxson was committed to the Florida Gators since November but Wilcoxson’s most recent visit to The Flats may have put the Yellow Jackets in the driver’s seat for the four-star athlete.

Georgia Tech had over 200 recruits on campus for Friday night’s spring game and one of them was four-star 2021 athlete Kamar Wilcoxson. It was Wilcoxson’s second visit to the Flats this month, visiting the weekend of the 12th before making a return trip on Friday.

On Friday, Wilcox visited the Jackets as a commit to the University of Florida and head coach Dan Mullen. By Saturday morning, Wilcox backed off that pledge that he made back in November. With considering the timing of Wilcoxson’s decommitment, it’s safe to say that the Yellow Jackets have given the Stephenson HS standout something to think about in the upcoming weeks and months.

While Wilcoxson isn’t ranked in 247Sports’s composite rankings yet, they do rank him as a top-250 player nationally, a top-25 athlete, and a top-20 player in the state of Georgia in the 2021 rankings.

Wilcoxson appears to be being recruited as a defensive back and has great size for the position at 6-foot-2, and 185-pounds. So far in his recruitment, he’s totaled 20 scholarship offers from some of the best programs across the country. Notable offers that he has received so far include Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, and Georgia.

Right now, the Jackets don’t have any 2021 class commitments and are still focused primarily on the 2020 recruiting class. So far, in the 2020 class, the Jackets have 10 commitments including four coming publically in the last week.

For Georgia Tech, Wilcoxson would be a huge pick, if he decided to commit to the program. As one of the top 2021 players not just in the state but in the region, the Jackets would be stealing a commitment from some of the country’s elite programs. No matter what though, the Jackets have to love where they are within Wilcoxson’s recruitment right now.
