Georgia Tech added one of the fastest players in the nation in the 2020 recruiting class, in the addition of wide receiver Avery Boyd.

247Sports’s composite rankings give Boyd an overall rating of .8376 and as a top-225 wide receiver in the country. Out of Tallahassee, Florida, Boyd its probably safe to say that Boyd is one of the fastest players in the country. According to his 247Sports, Boyd has a verified 40-yard dash time of 4.37.

During his recruitment, Boyd was recruited mostly by Group of Five programs had received one other power five offer, that being from Ole Miss. Notable Group of Five programs that offered Boyd included UCF, USF, and Western Kentucky.

Boyd’s recruitment and signing continues to show that the Yellow Jackets commitment to adding quite a bit of speed to their receiving core. In the 2019 recruiting class they added Ahmarean Brown and in the 2020 recruiting class they added fellow speedster Nate McCollum as well.

Long term, we believe that Boyd can project to be at the least a consistent contributor on the offense who sees quite a bit of playing time. With 4.37 speed, Boyd will always be one of the fastest players on the field and while he could lineup on the outside at 6-foot-2, however using his speed in the slot may be more beneficial for the Jackets down the road. It seems likely that Boyd won’t see the field for a season or two on The Flats as he works on refining parts of his game such as route running.
