The Georgia Tech swimming & diving teams are back in action, and this week, junior Andrew Kosic was honored by Swimming World Magazine as its Speedo Performer of the Week for his performance in the meet against No. 8 Louisville this past weekend in Atlanta.
After the holiday break, you might think it would take some time for swimmers to get their legs back, but Kosic was ready for the challenge. He went head-to-head with the Cardinals’ Joao DeLucca in both the 50 and the 100 freestyles, where the two tied for first in the 50, posting a time of 20.41, while DeLucca edged out Kosic in the 100.
But it was in the 200 free relay where Kosic made a huge difference, leading off with a 20.12 time (two-tenths off his season best) and leading the Jackets to a good start in the event. The Jackets finished second in the 200 free relay, but senior Ryan Salmon nearly caught Louisville’s Trevor Carrol in the final leg.
Kosic remains ranked among the ACC leaders in both the 50 and 100 free events, currently ranked fourth in the 50 (19.92) and sixth in the 100 (43.88).
