#3 – Crazy Towel Guy

Herb Neubauer…a name you may not know unless you’re a hardcore Duke fan, but nonetheless, a name that belongs on this list. Herb (otherwise known by his nom de plume, Crazy Towel Guy) is the Fireman Ed of the Duke fanbase. He’s the epitome of the middle-aged fan who wishes he were still enjoying dorm life. This retired Food Lion supervisor stands above the Cameron Crazies, and acts as a pseudo-conductor with his towel to energize the crowd – a sort of poor man’s Leonard Bernstein if you will. In fairness, Neubauer is an alum, and a huge supporter of all Duke athletics.
