The U.S. Amateur field consists of 312 golfers who will play 18 holes of Stroke Play on August 11th and 12th. Stroke Play will be played on two qualifying courses which are “The Highland” which is a par 71 course that measures out at 7,428 yards, and “The Riverside” which is a par 72 and measures out at 7,381 yards.

After the qualifying rounds, the field will get cut to the 64 lowest scorers in the field. From that point six rounds of Match Play will begin on August 13th with the championship to be decided in a 36-hole championship match on the 17th.

Coming into this week’s competition Ollie Schneiderjans will be looking to hold on to his No. 1 world amateur ranking and doing so will pay off big for him.

If Schneiderjans is able to hold on to the top spot he will win the Mark H. McCormick Medal which is awarded to the World’s Top Amateur over the last 12 months. That award comes with automatic invites to the U.S. and British Opens.

Schneiderjans has gone through his growing pains in the U.S. Amateur. Last year the Tech golf star failed to reach match play when this event was held at Brookline. In 2012 he did make it to the Match Play round though he lost his first round match up.

Seth Reeves, who comes into this event ranked No. 27 in the World Amateur Rankings, has gone through a growing process in this event as well.

In 2011, Reeves made the field of 312 but failed to make it into the Match Play round. In 2013, Reeves did make it to the Match Play round and won his first round match.

Bo Andrews played his way into the U.S. Amateur field by advancing out of  a sectional qualifier that was held at the Great Waters golf course in Eatonton, GA while Jacob Joiner qualified at a sectional that was held in Orlando, Fla.

The last Yellow Jackets golfer to win the U.S. Amateur was current No. 5 golfer in the world Matt Kuchar. Kuchar won the U.S. Amateur back in 1997 at Cog Hill golf and Country Club.

Golf legend Bobby Jones won five amateur titles (1924, 1925,1927,1928,1930).
