2015 Senior Bowl: Mike Mayock Likes What He Sees From Shaq Mason
Going into Saturday’s Senior Bowl, Shaq Mason knew what he needed to work on in order to impress NFL Scouts and raise his draft stock.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Mason has the college resume of sure-fire NFL offensive lineman; USA Today first-team All-American, Sport Illustrated, Football Writer’s Association of America, and Phil Steele second-team All-American, Associated Press third-team All-American.
But the knock was supposed to be his size at 6-foot-1, 310 pounds.
However,as the Senior Bowl practices moved along, Mason started getting noticed by the scouts, and in particular, NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock.
Mayock broke down Shaq Mason’s game on NFL Network and nfl.com by saying:
“He bent his knees and got under people. He’s a tough kid with really good leverage”
Mayock also said that he projects Mason to be a center in the NFL. (click here to watch video)
We already knew that pass blocking was going to be an issue because Tech does not throw the rock around the lot to much. But we also know Shaq Mason’s wok ethic, so pass protection will not be a problem for long.
Shaq Mason is easily was one of the best lineman, on one of the best offensive lines in college football.
The Yellow Jackets averaged 342.1 yards per game behind Mason and the rest of the offensive line crew.
The 2015 Senior Bowl will be played Saturday January 24th at 4 PM EST from Mobile, Alabama and can be seen on NFL Network.
