Georgia Tech Baseball: Swarming Into a New Season

Alright seamheads, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets baseball is just about here. Beginning Friday afternoon, 4:00 PM EST to be exact, the 2015 season will kick off for your defending ACC Tournament Champions.

Friday’s matchup versus St. John’s will be Georgia Tech’s first game in the Atlanta Challenge which will also feature a doubleheader for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday versus Fordham.

St. John’s posted an impressive 35-20 (13-5 Big East) mark for the 2014 campaign while the Fordham Rams went 24-30 (13-14 Atlantic 10) last season.

The player to watch this weekend for the Yellow Jackets will be senior outfielder Daniel Spingola. Named Second Team All-ACC as a junior, Spingola was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 24th round of last June’s MLB Amateur Draft following a season that saw him post a .319/.384/.451 triple slash with three home runs, nine doubles and eight triples while swiping 15 bags.

“I’m definitely excited to get it started and try to do better than last year,” Spingola told RamblinWreck.com. That is the type of approach that Georgia Tech baseball fans want to hear heading into a new spring.
