When Duke Blue Devils head coach David Cutcliffe asked the question, “Why would wide receiver recruits want to go to Georgia Tech?”, it had to make you laugh.

It is not like the Yellow Jackets are turning out horrible wide receivers to the NFL.

There are a couple of decent wide receivers playing pretty well on Sundays right now as a matter of fact.

There is some receiver in Denver named Demaryius Thomas that is playing some pretty good football. He is in line for a big payday this NFL offseason after grabbing 111 receptions for 1,619 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Then there is some other guy in the NFL that is arguably the best wide receiver in the game.

His name is Calvin Johnson but everyone calls him “Megatron”. He is the fastest wide receiver to reach 10,000 yards in NFL History.

This year the Yellow Jackets have two wide receivers that have been invited to the NFL combine.

DeAndre Smelter was voted second-team All-ACC by the ACC coaches and Phil Steele and third-team All-ACC by the ACSMA. He finished with 35 catches for 715 yards and seven touchdowns.

Darren Waller took over for Smelter as the starting wide receiver in the ACC Championship and Orange Bowl and played spectacularly. Waller finished the season with 26 catches for 442 yards and six touchdowns.

Waller closed out the 2014 season by grabbing five passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in Georgia Tech’s Orange Bowl victory over Mississippi State.

The Yellow Jackets grabbed four wide receiver recruits in this recruiting class, one of which could possibly play defensive back for the Yellow Jackets depending on who wins the debate between Ted Roof and Paul Johnson.

Here are four such recruits that David Cutcliffe was thinking about when he asked that question, “Why would wide receiver recruits want to go to Georgia Tech?”.
