This was actually a fun article to look at on Yardbarker if you like lists.
Andrew Juge put together a list of the best players at every age in the NFL from age 21 to 42 which turned out to be a very interesting list.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas both ended up making this list for their respective age groups beating out some pretty good competition.
29-year-old Calvin Johnson ended up beating out 29-year old running back Adrian Peterson on Juge’s list which will probably be controversial to some.
Calvin Johnson is arguably the best wide receiver in football at any age. “Megatron” became the fastest receiver to reach career yards in 115 games beating out Torry Holt who did it in 115 games.
This past season Johnson caught 71 passes for 1,077 yards and eight touchdowns and was named to the Pro Bowl.
For his career “Megatron” has snatched 643 receptions for 10,405 yards and 74 touchdowns — all in a Detroit Lions’ uniform.
Adrian Peterson sat out all of 2014 because of the issues that arose surrounding the discipline of his kid.
Peterson, to date, has rushed for 10,190 yards on 2,054 carries in his career and has scored 86 touchdowns all with the Minnesota Vikings.
Peterson also won 2012 NFL Offensive Player of the Year , 2012 Associated Press NFL MVP, and 2012 Pro Football Writers MVP.
Other players that are 29-years of age that Calvin Johnson beat out are San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis and New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Demaryius Thomas was considered the best player in the 27-year-old age bracket.
Thomas is going through the free agency process with this offseason after snaring 111 catches for 1,619 yards and 11 touchdowns. For his career, Thomas has collected 351 catches for 5,317 yards and 41 touchdowns.
The Denver Broncos have to make a decision on whether or not they are going to franchise tag Thomas, or sign him to a long-term deal this season.
According to Juge’s article Thomas’ closest competition in this age bracket was Calvin Johnson’s quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Stafford is credited for having one of the liveliest arms in the NFL. He guided the Detroit Lions to the playoffs in 2014 and got knocked out by the Dallas Cowboys 24-20 in the Wildcard Round.

For his career, Stafford has connected on 59.6% of his throws for 21,714 yards with 131 touchdowns and 85 interceptions.
Demaryius Thomas said during last season that he was better than Calvin Johnson, but we did not get to see it play out in the pro bowl because they both backed out.
Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas are two of the best wide receivers and players for that matter in the NFL today regardless of age.
Hopefully we will be blessed enough to watch them play at a high level well into their 30’s, health allowing of course.
