After a weekend that saw the Georgia Tech baseball team drop two of three against unranked Miami, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets defeated 12th ranked Oklahoma 2-0 on Tuesday.

Ben Schniederjans and Jay Shadday combined for a two-hit shutout against the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday afternoon. In what was a pitching duel throughout the game, the Yellow Jackets managed just six hits of their own against four Oklahoma pitchers.

Schniederjans pitched five shutout innings on Tuesday, striking out six batters while allowing just three to reach base.

Shadday was just as effective if not more in relief on Schniederjans on Tuesday. In his four innings of work the left-handed freshman struck out three and allowing one hit. The freshman was consistently around the plate with 34 of 45 pitches called strikes.

Combined the two pitchers had six one-two-three innings, while only facing a maximum of five batters in any one inning.

Offensively, the heroes weren’t the normal heroes for the Yellow Jackets. Star catcher Joey Bart who has been near unstoppable all season went 0-for-3 on Tuesday as did Kel Johnson. In fact, the Jackets just mustered four hits before their two-run seventh inning.

For the Jackets, senior outfielder Keenan Innis got on base to lead the inning via hit by pitch before being moved to second by Ryan Peurifoy on a sacrifice bunt. After Peurifoy’s sacrifice bunt, Austin Wilhite knocked in the game’s first run on a RBI double. Three batters later, left fielder Colton Murray tacked on an insurance run via another double for the Jackets, giving them a 2-0 lead.

The shutout victory over Oklahoma on Tuesday improves the Yellow Jackets record to 11-4 on the season. The Jackets will look to get on a hot streak this weekend as the always dangerous North Carolina comes to town. North Carolina will enter the weekend series with a 13-4 record and on a two-game winning streak.
