Georgia Tech Baseball: Quick Recap – Stallings, Poje lead Jackets’ past Georgia Southern
Brandt Stallings and Coleman Poje contributed seven of Georgia Tech’s12 runs on Tuesday evening, lead the Jackets to a 12-3 victory.
Georgia Tech sophomore outfielder Brandt Stallings came off the bench on Tuesday night but made his presence known going 2-for-3 with two home runs (5,6) and four RBI. Senior outfielder Coleman Poje (continued his hot streak on Tuesday night, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run (10) and three RBI.
Junior infielder Wade Bailey also had a productive night at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a RBI. In total, eight different Yellow Jackets collected hits with six of them having a multi-hit game.
Starter Ben Schniederjans pitched three rather strong innings for the Yellow Jackets, allowing just one run on three hits and a trio of walks. Once Schniederjans was lifted from the game, Jackets manager Danny Hall used four relievers to get through the remaining six innings. Reliever Jared Datoc picked the up the win for the Yellow Jackets his sixth of the season.
Georgia Southern pitcher Brian Eichorn who was coming off the best start of his collegiate career struggled Tuesday, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and two walks. Following Eichorn’s departure, the Yellow Jackets were able to get to the Eagles bullpen for ten hits and seven additional runs. The Jackets are now 18-7 on the year when scoring six or more runs in a game.
The victory moves the Yellow Jackets record to 26-24 overall on the season and completes the season sweep of Georgia Southern. The Yellow Jackets are now off until Friday when they start a weekend series against Virginia, looking to clinch a spot in the ACC tournament. The Yellow Jackets will need to win at least one game this weekend to ensure that head coach Danny Hall continues his streak of winning seasons.
