No.2:  2014 Georgia Tech vs Georgia – 2014

2014 season ended up being one of the better seasons in the long history of Georgia Tech football, but it wouldn’t have meant much to Tech fans or players without a win over their arch rival.

The No. 16 Yellow Jackets faced the No. 10 Bulldogs in Athens and an instant classic in the making was evident early on with a close matchup going back-and-forth throughout.

Tech and UGA were tied 7-7 at the half, 14-14. Georgia Tech was up 21-17 in the fourth and recovered their own kickoff, but Justin Thomas turned the ball over with 2:41 left. The Bulldogs drove for a 24-21 lead having bled the clock to only 0:18.

Things weren’t looking good for Tech, until Justin Thomas redeemed himself with a key 21-yard scramble out of bounds that set up a 53-yard Harrison Butker field goal. He, of course, made it, sending the game into overtime at 24-24.

Tech scored a touchdown in the opening overtime possession, but the extra point was blocked. The Jackets defense closed out the 30-24 thriller, however, when D.J. White intercepted a Hutson Mason pass. Tech went on to finish 11-3 and Orange Bowl champions.
