The season may not have had the best outcome for the Yellow Jackets, but one Tech slugger got some good postseason news on Thursday morning.

Georgia Tech finished 2017 at a disappointing 27-28 on the season, but one of the silver linings in the campaign was the stellar play of slugger Wade Bailey.

Bailey, a junior second baseman, was named a to the NCAA Division I All-American Second Team by Collegiate Baseball Magazine on Thursday.

Already a All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team selection, Bailey led the Yellow Jackets with a .347 average and did it in the leadoff spot for most of the season. He also led Tech with a  .420 on-base percentage.

Bailey has started all three of his seasons at Georgia Tech and was named to the 2016 NCAA Gainesville Regional All-Tournament Team for his postseason efforts in his sophomore year.

A Villa Rica native, Bailey has a .307 lifetime batting average in three seasons on the Flats, and has racked up 212 hits (47 doubles, three triples), 147 runs, 11 homers, and nine RBI. He has carried a career .371 on-base percentage and has only 71 career strikeouts in 691 plate appearances.

Next: Tough decision lays ahead for Bailey

It is yet to be seen what plans Bailey has going forward with the Major League Baseball Draft just around the corner. With 55 career starts for the Yellow Jackets, Bailey would bring a ton of valuable experience to next year’s team if he decided to stay for his senior season.
