Georgia Tech Football Recruiting: 2018 Safety Charlie Thomas commits to Yellow Jackets
After going months without any commitments, Georgia Tech football picked up their second commitment in the 2018 class with safety Charlie Thomas.
Thomasville, Georgia native Charlie Thomas is the second member of the 2018 Georgia Tech recruiting class as the safety committed to the Jackets on Monday. He joins linebacker JaQuez Jackson who committed on Sunday night.
Thomas told Scout.com the following about his commitment.
"“Georgia Tech was the school that had everything I wanted. Tech was the most perfect fit for football and academically.”"
He also pointed out one of the key facts about Georgia Tech that helped lead to his decision.
"“I just kept thinking about the 1 in 6 graduates go on to become millionaires and I just couldn’t pass that chance up.”"
Again, both of those comments are courtesy of Dale McDuffie of Scout.com who interviewed Thomas following his commitment.
A 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety, Thomas will provide the Yellow Jackets with good size and tremendous skills on the field. While unranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings, the recruiting service ranks him as a top-500 player in the nation.
The Thomasville native held 18 scholarship offers prior to his commitment which included some strong programs such as Auburn, USF, and Vanderbilt. With an impressive offer list and being only three-stars, there could be a bit of a rise in Thomas’s rankings going forward.
On the field, Thomas has the skills to become a huge part of the Yellow Jackets secondary in the future and has the skills to make all and any play he has too. With his big 6-foot-2 frame, Thomas will have the ability to cover any tall tight end or wide receiver in his vicinity while his good ball hawking skills will allow him to also make plays on the ball when needed.
For Georgia Tech, Thomas’s commitment means the Jackets first two commitments are two players who scouts and analysts believe could be game-changer for the Jackets in the future
While it took a few months to get going, the Jackets first two commitments in the 2018 class may not be the highest ranked but look like great fits for the program.Look for an analysis of Thomas’s skill set in the upcoming day.
