Earlier this week, Whatley released a top three of Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and Wake Forest. Luckily for Paul Johnson and staff they received the commitment from the running back who has tremendous size and speed.
A-Back Dontae Smith:
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets received their second commitment of the day on Thursday when 2018 running back, Dontae Smith pulled the trigger to commit to the Jackets. Smith projects to be an A-Back for Georgia Tech once he arrives on campus.
Smith is a running back who presents great speed with times varying between the low 4.4s and the low 4.5s. The Tennessee native got a call from Georgia Tech on Thursday, as the coaching staff looked to extend him an offer. Smith took the offer up immediately and decided to commit to the Yellow Jackets on spot according to 247Sports.com. The recruiting site also said that Smith did notify the Georgia Tech coaching staff that he will be taking official visits this fall despite his commitment.
Overall:
Overall, the Yellow Jackets now have six total commitments in the 2018 recruiting class after entering the month with none. With both players expected to take over in the backfield once arriving on campus next June, the Yellow Jackets are most likely done at running back for the 2018 recruiting class.
