The 2013 season can easily be summed up in one word, mediocre. It was Ted Roof’s first season as the defensive coordinator for the Yellow Jackets, and he didn’t have the best of years.

The GT offense averaged 35 points a game and were only able to win seven games. Opposing teams just seemed to not have a problem scoring on the Yellow Jackets – Miami scored 45, BYU scored 38, Clemson scored 55, and Georgia scored 41 – it was just a rough year for Ted Roof’s defense.

The end of the 2013 season was absolutely heartbreaking. Georgia Tech hadn’t beaten Georgia in three years, and after being up by twenty points in the first half, Yellow Jacket fans all had the same thing in mind – this was the year. The environment was electric, the team looked great, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Georgia stormed back in the second half and the game went into OT. After one OT period wasn’t enough, Todd Gurley ran 25 yards for a TD to begin 2OT and tech was never able to answer. A gut punch is the best words to describe the feeling that we all felt leaving Bobby Dodd Stadium. Georgia Tech went on to lose to Ole Miss in the Music City bowl and finished the season 7-6.
