After a dispiriting 2010 season, the beginning of the 2011 season saw the Yellow Jackets climb the rankings and nearly crack the top 10 after a 6-0 start. The quality of the team’s first six opponents was a bit questionable, however, and the second half of the season proved that the 2011 team wasn’t near as good as we may have thought.

It all started when a confident Tech team traveled to play against the Virginia Cavaliers in a perfect trap game setting. The Jackets lost a close one by three points and finished the last seven games with only two wins.

One of those two wins, however, was an upset homecoming win over the sixth-ranked Clemson Tigers.  Jemea Thomas picked off Tajh Boyd twice in the fourth quarter to seal the deal for the Yellow Jackets.

The team finished the season 8-5 after an overtime loss to Utah in the Sun Bowl.
