Tennessee (17-24-2):

Like Georgia, the Yellow Jackets will be taking on Tennessee this upcoming season. Instead of facing them in their last game of the season, they’ll be opening the season against the Volunteers. The matchup on Labor Day will be the first game between the two programs since 1987, when the Volunteers picked up a 29-15 victory in Knoxville.

The series between these two schools dates back to 1902 when the Volunteers defeated Tech 10-6. The two programs played each other eight times between 1902 and 1912. After those 10 years, the Jackets held a five to three advantage over the Vols. Following 1912, the two programs would fail to meet each other till 1946 where two coaches with stadiums named after them in Bobby Dodd and Bob Neyland. The two coaches would face each other four-times during the series, splitting it at two-games each.

Beginning in 1954, the heart of the series took place as the two programs met 28 times in 33 seasons. It would be a run between 1964 and 1973 when Tennessee won ten of eleven games between the two programs. Over the course of the last 21 games, the Vols have took 17 of 21 which stretched their series lead to what is now a seven-game advantage.

Almost 30-years since their last meeting, the Yellow Jackets will for revenge against Tennessee at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Labor Day.
