Georgia Tech Football: Five programs the Yellow Jackets have historically struggled against
Auburn Tigers (41-47-4):
It’s another SEC team on the list and another team hailing from the Heart of the Dixie. This time, it’s the Auburn Tigers. Like Alabama, the record itself isn’t too bad but 47 losses over isn’t exactly great either.
The series between the two programs dates back to 1892 when Auburn defeated the Jackets 26-0. The Tigers won nine of the first ten games of the series and 16 of the first 18 games (16-1-1). That being said, the record is a bit of deception. With 16 of the 47 losses coming between 1892 and 1914, the Jackets are left with a 40-31-3 record all-time against the Tigers.
But that being said, the Jackets all-time still have a losing record against the Tigers. The longest winning streak between the two programs was a 13-games steak by Tech that took place from 1941-1954. While the Jackets certainly had success against the Tigers from 1915 to 1956, when a majority of their victories came, they have struggled in the back end of the series.
Since 1960, the year some consider the start of the “Modern Era” for college football, the Tigers have faced each other 30 times. In those 30 games, the Tigers showed some of their dominance from the beginning of the series winning 20 of 30.
The last time the two teams met was in 2005 when the Jackets pulled off a 23-14 victory in Auburn. They also faced off in 2003 when the Jackets won 17-3 on The Flats.
