Georgia Tech Basketball Recruiting: Devoe makes it official, commits to Yellow Jackets

Four-star guard Michael Devoe made his commitment to Georgia Tech on Saturday evening.

The 2018 Georgia Tech basketball recruiting class has its’ second member. Four-star guard Michael Devoe ended his recruitment on Saturday committing to the Yellow Jackets. He joins three-star Kristian Sjolund, a 6-foot-9 small forward from Katy, Texas.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pound point guard from Orlando, Florida was down to a final group of programs that included Florida and Wake Forest before committing to Tech on Saturday.

With his commitment to Tech, the Yellow Jackets now have the 30th ranked recruiting class and the seventh best in the ACC according to 247Sports.

Devoe is ranked as the 92nd best player in the country and the 17th best point guard in the country by the recruiting service. He is the Jackets highest rated recruit since Tadric Jackson in 2014.

Devoe, a senior at Montverde Academy has been on the varsity squad for three-years. While there is no stats for his junior year, his sophomore stats are pretty impressive. During his sophomore season (2015-2016), Devoe averaged 18.9 points and 6.8 assists per game according to MaxPreps.com.

A closer look at Devoe’s stats shows that the Florida native is a strong three-point shooter and shooter overall as he averaged 52% from beyond the arch his sophomore season and 57% from the field. Both numbers were improvements from his freshman season when he shot 33% and 40% respectively.

His improvement in all facets of his game from one year to another also speaks volumes to the type of player Devoe is. It also allows the Tech coaching staff and scouts the opportunity to further project where Devoe is in his game and where he could be in the future.

The commitment from Devoe could help the Yellow Jackets recruit five-star small forward Nassir Little. Little, another Orlando native is high on the Yellow Jackets but is also high on Arizona and North Carolina. While the Yellow Jackets are very much in the middle of his recruitment, it will be an uphill battle for Little.
