In the surprise of the week, the Cavaliers traveled out to Boise State to take on the Broncos and came away with a very impressive and convincing 42-23 victory. The Cavaliers have obviously taken strides in year two of Bronco Mendenhall’s tenure but will they be able to win enough ACC games to become bowl eligible?

For the Tar Heels, the season continues to go downhill as they are now 1-3 on the season following a 27-17 loss to Duke. The Tar Heels offensively aren’t struggling, putting up 30+ points per game and 431 yards per game. Their defense, however, is where their weakness lies and it’s hard to see them stopping some of the more high-powered offenses in the ACC. The Tar Heels were able to hang with Duke but they’ll have to clean up their game in order to get to bowl eligibility.

Syracuse definitely deserves credit for their performance on Saturday. The Orange were able to go into (LSU’s) Death Valley and put up 26 points on the board, giving the Tigers a scare. The Orange are another team that has taken strides under a second-year head coach, this time Dino Babers. The Orange will need to continue to do so with the ACC’s version of a gauntlet for the rest of their schedule. At least they get to finish their season off with Boston College.

If week four was any indication for Pittsburgh, it’s that there should be worries going on in the Steel City. The Panthers on Saturday simply showed that they’re not a quality and sound football team. Georgia Tech gifted the Panthers with four turnovers who were unable to capitalize on the opportunities. Their offense once again sputtered throughout while the defense has given up 30+ points now in three straight games.

2385. Week 5: Central Michigan (2-2). 1-3. Previous: 14th. Boston College Golden Eagles. 14. team

Credit goes where credit is due and the Golden Eagles deserve credit for a rather impressive performance through the first three-quarters against Clemson. While they showed off how strong they could be defensive, it magnified how much the offense truly struggles. Through their first four games, they’re only averaging 15 points per game.
