Wake Forest is coming off back-to-back losses against Florida State and Clemson after opening the season 4-0. The Demon Deacons are also 4-1-1 against the spread, which indicates that Wake Forest has been playing at a pretty high-level at a continuous rate and keep exceeding expectations.
The Yellow Jackets enter the week with a 3-2 record but could very well be 5-0. The difference between the 3-2 record and 5-0 record for the Yellow Jackets is just a total of 2 minutes and 2 points. The Jackets defense had its’ struggles against both Tennessee and Miami but looked stellar against weaker Jacksonville State, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina. Against the spread, the Jackets are 5-0.
Head-to-head, this will be the first matchup between the two schools since 2010 and the first time the Demon Deacons have traveled to Atlanta since 2009. All-time, the Yellow Jackets hold a 22-8 series lead over the Demon Deacons and are on a two-game winning streak. Wake Forest’s last win against the Jackets came in the 2006 ACC Championship game that the Demon Deacons won 9-6.
Considering how both programs have looked this year, this could very well be a game that is closer than the 8-1/2 point line. Both teams feature solid defenses and offenses that have been able to put up their share of points. The Wake Forest offense has struggled against better teams of late, scoring just 20 points or less in three straight games.
Injuries will obviously play another big factor in the game as the Jackets are banged up a bit including an injury to KirVonte Benson. His availability for the game is not known yet. Wake Forest has two notable injuries including quarterback John Wofford, who should be ready to go on Saturday.
