Georgia Tech Football: Jackets open as nine-point favorites over Virginia
Coming off a 24-10 loss to Clemson on Saturday, the Georgia Tech Football program opened as nine-point favorites over the Virginia Cavaliers.
The Georgia Tech football team is coming off a 24-10 loss to Clemson on Saturday but now have to quickly turn their sights towards the Virginia Cavaliers. The Jackets, are now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in ACC play. The Cavaliers started the season off hot, getting out to a 5-1 record but have faltered recently. The Cavaliers have dropped back-to-back games now against Boston College and Pittsburgh. The over/under for the game has been set at 49 points.
The Jackets will be playing just their third road game of the season on Saturday when they travel to Charlottesville. The Jackets have lost both of their road games this season, including this past weekend’s loss at the hands of Clemson.
Virginia enters this weekend playing their sixth home game and is 3-2 so far this season at home. The last time the Cavaliers played at home was two weeks ago when they were demolished by Boston College 41-10.
The nine-point line is the highest the Jackets have been favored this season with the previous high being eight-points against North Carolina. The Jackets would cover the spread in that game and win by a final score of 33-7. Last season, the Jackets were a 10.5 point favorite and won 31-17

after losing 27-21 the year prior. Both games went under the total missing by four and six points.
Like Clemson, Virginia has had success defensively against the Yellow Jackets. In both of the last two meetings between the ACC programs, the Jackets were held under 200-yards rushing. The Cavaliers have a much better offense in 2017 than recent years and could very well win this game with another strong defensive performance from their defense.
Turnovers have also been a huge part of the last two games and could be once again on Friday. In 2015, the Jackets gave up two fumbles which helped lead to 27-21 Virginia victory while last season, three interceptions by the Cavaliers helped lead to a 31-17 Tech victory.
Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 3:00 pm as Georgia Tech looks to earn their 21st victory all-time over the Cavaliers in a series that is nearly even with the Jackets leading the series 20-18-1. The Jackets are 6-3 under Paul Johnson against Virginia.
