Guard – #55 Malachi Rice

The fourth and final freshman walk-on is Indiana native Malachi Rice. Rice, like Jon Brown, is a point guard but was not as much of a prolific scorer. According to his MaxPreps profile, Rice played in 48 varsity games in his high school career and averaged 9.5 points per game. In his senior season, he averaged 11.6 points per game.

Rice through his career also averaged 2.6 assists per game and 2.0 rebounds per game as well. When it came to shooting percentage, Rice shot at a 46% rate which all things considered is a pretty solid shooting percentage.

Rice is certainly not a polished player and his stats show that his assist to turnover ratio was just 1.23 for his high school career. He also very rarely shoots beyond the arch and is a 30% three-point shooter when he does. Rice’s future ould very well be in being a future floor general for the Jackets, solely running the offense when needed.

Next: Football: Andrew Marshall to return for fifth season

Rice will most likely see limited playing time early in his career but could see time during his junior and senior year if he develops to the liking of Josh Pastner and his staff.
