Bottom Tier:

These teams are the bottom of the barrel in the ACC, while they may have games where they show flashes they’ll struggle for the majority of the season.

12. Florida State Seminoles (0-0)

The Seminoles were a top-25 team last year with their best rosters in years. This year might be much different however as the Seminoles don’t nearly have the depth they had a season ago. They play in a system that has a lot of positives offensively but questionable decision making could hamper them.

They’ll look for a ton of fast break opportunities but if teams are able to play smart against the Seminoles and have strong decision making, teams will be able to rout the Seminoles and keep them contained offensively. Make mistakes and you’ll pay the price against the high-tempo offense built off speed.

13. Clemson Tigers (2-0)

The Tigers are one program that could certainly move their way into the mid-tier in the near future. They have an experienced roster that has played with each other for quite the bit of time heading into this season. That was shown in their first two games of the season but, will they be able to compete against as talented or more talented ACC teams? Only time will tell but recent history says don’t expect much out of these Tigers.

14. Boston College Eagles (2-0)

Boston College is off to a 2-0 start but don’ buy into the Eagles being a competitor in the ACC. Their schedule will get consistently harder as the season goes on which the Eagles will show their true colors. While they do have a strong duo offensively in Jerome Robinson and Ky Bowman, they just are not fundamentally strong in other aspects of the game which is where they’ll lose a good majority of their games.

15. Pittsburgh Panthers (0-2)

The Pittsburgh Panthers are in the position many expected the Georgia Tech basketball team to be last season. The Panthers entered the season as one of the worst teams in the ACC and potentially all of college basketball and after the first few days of the season, it appears it’s going to be a tough season for the Panthers and head coach Kevin Stallings.

The Panthers dropped their season opener to Navy, 71-62. That being said, Navy is a rather respectable program. However, the real reality setter for the Panthers season was their loss on Monday night. On Monday night, the Panthers fell to the Montana Grizzlies 83-78. The game originally scheduled to be a “confidence booster” or “easy win” game for the Panthers turned into a nightmare. The Panthers could easily lose around 25 games this season.
