Mitchell wins co-linebacker of the week honors:

Georgia Tech senior linebacker Brant Mitchell was questionable to play against the Hokies but ended up playing. It was a decision that payed off greatly for both the Yellow Jackets and Mitchell.

Mitchell, finished Saturday’s upset victory with nine tackles which included his first sack of the season and his third pass deflection of the season. The game against Virginia Tech was Mitchell’s first time seeing action in a little less than a month, last seeing action against Wake Forest.

Mitchell’s strong game against the Hokies was recognized by the ACC as he was awarded as one of the ACC’s linebackers of the week. He shared the honor with Miami stud sophomore linebacker Zach McCloud. McCloud has been a huge part of the Hurricanes defense all season and was a major part of their 41-8 demolition of Notre Dame.

In the time he was missing, true freshman linebacker Bruce Jordan-Swilling took over and showed great potential and progression.  That being said, it’s safe to say that the Jackets defense is a different animal when Mitchell is on the field than when he is off it.

The Jackets will need big games out of Mitchell over the course of the next two weeks if they hope to reach bowl eligibility as well as to upset UGA.
