Georgia Tech: G Jose Alvarado

The freshman point guard from Brooklyn has been phenomenal for the Yellow Jackets so far this season. He so far has averaged 13.9 points per game to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. The New York native is shooting 46.2% from the field and 80% from the free throw line.

Alvarado plays way beyond his years and has a veteran like presence on the court that has held the Jackets together despite a rough start to their season. Beyond his usage rate offensively of 21.1%, Alvarado has an assists rate of 26.3% and a turnover rate of 14.8%, more simply, he’s averaging 6.5 assists per 100 possessions to about 3.6 turnovers per 100.

Alvarado this season has been rather consistent for the Jackets, scoring at least nine points in each game so far this season. He’s had five games this season where he scored double-digit points including a 22-point performance against Grambling.

With Ben Lammers still on the mend and Josh Okogie out, Alvarado will have to be a key part of the Jackets offense on Sunday afternoon.
