ATH Tijai Whatley will officially join the Georgia Tech Football program on Wednesday when he signs his letter of intent.

Rome, Georgia native and Darlington School athlete Tijai Whatley will officially join the Georgia Tech Football program on Wednesday. Whatley is expected to be a running back at Tech once he arrives on campus.

Whatley is considered a composite three-star running back and one of the top 100-players in the Peach State. Nationally, he is in the top 1,100 players and is the 80th ranked athlete in the country.

At 6-0, 180-pounds, the Yellow Jackets coaching staff will have to make a decision if they want Whatley to add weight and become a B-Back or join a clustered A-Back position.

Recruitment Overview:

Whatley over his recruitment collected 15 known offers leading up to his commitment.

  • Boston College
  • Coastal Carolina
  • Colorado State
  • East Carolina
  • Eastern Kentucky
  • Georgia Tech
  • Georgia Southern
  • Georgia State
  • Kansas
  • Miami (OH)
  • North Carolina
  • Rutgers

  • Wake Forest

As one can see looking at his list of offers, Whatley collected a very respectable offer list including several power five offers. Out of the 15 known offers, only one is an FCS offer, that being Eastern Kentucky.

The Jackets recruitment of Whatley happened rather fast as he was originally offered by the program last May before committing to Paul Johnson and his staff on June 22nd. Since then, Whatley has been a hard Georgia Tech commitment and took his official visit on December 15th.
