The Georgia Tech basketball team finished out their 2017-18 non-conference schedule on Saturday with a 74-60 win over the Yale Bulldogs.

Freshman point guard Jose Alvarado had a career night on Saturday for the Georgia Tech basketball team in a 14-point win over Yale. The New York native dropped 23-points, a career-high while also four assists and bringing down six rebounds.

Alvarado was on fire from all ranges, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and 7-for-7 from the free throw line. The freshman continues to build confidence and is already showing his potential to be one of the ACC’s top point guards.

Sophomore sharpshooter Josh Okogie continued his string of strong performances as well, for the Jackets, dropping 20 points in the Jackets victory. It was his third straight game of 15 points or more and followed up a 30-point performance from Wednesday night against Miami.

Junior forward Abdoulaye Gueye may have been the star of the game however as he scored a season-high 14 points and bringing down nine rebounds. Had he had a 10th rebound, it would’ve been his first career double-double.

Overall, the Jackets used a strong second-half effort that turned their four-point lead at halftime into a 14-point victory. The Jackets shot 48% for the game including shooting over 50% from three-point range.

Tech also benefited from having 28 free-throw shots on Saturday, sinking 21 of those 28. Yale, got to the line for just 12 shots. The Jackets overall outdid the Bulldogs in almost every statistical category.

For the Jackets, it was a second straight strong and complete performance. After Wednesday’s upset victory over Miami, the Jackets had to continue to keep the momentum rolling and they did just that.

The back-to-back strong performances should be confidence builders for the program who struggled for most of the season including winning just one game in the month of December. The Jackets are now 8-3 at home on the season and 8-7 overall.

The Jackets will now be off until Wednesday when they take on Notre Dame, who recently lost star Bonzie Colston for foreseeable future. The two teams played each other just last weekend, a game that Notre Dame came out on top in with a 68-59 victory.
