The Georgia Tech Softball team swept two games on Saturday to move to 3-1 at the Matador Classic.

GT 2 Cal Poly 1:

Katie Krzus and Cameron Stanford had RBI hits in the third and fourth inning to give Tech the only two runs they would need in the game. Freshman Lilly Hooper had a great day at the plate going 3 for 4. After struggling on Friday Emily Anderson got her 3rd start of the day and earned a complete game victory. She tossed 7 innings and only gave up 1 earned run off 7 hits.

GT 11 Santa Clara 0 (5):

Cameron Stanford hit her 5th home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the 1st inning. The next six runs the Jackets would score in the 2nd inning would all come without a single hit as a barrage of walks and wild pitches would give Tech a commanding 7-0 lead in the 2nd frame. Senior Kendall Chadwick added a pinch hit 2 RBI double in the fourth, that along with RBIs from Hooper and Ellebracht brought the Tech lead to 11-0. Naomi Dickerson threw 5 scoreless innings giving up just 3 hits. The win puts Dickerson at 5-3 on the year.

Takeaways:

After a disappointing Friday in which coach Morales attributed to a lack of focus, the Yellow Jackets played two complete games on Saturday. In the first game Emily Anderson got back to her dominant ways and the defense behind played an error less game. The offense wasn’t huge but it was clutch, and the at bats were overall much better than the ones on Friday. In the second game Tech got a much needed performance out of Naomi Dickerson.

Saving Emily Anderson from any clean up duty after already starting 3 games on the weekend, Dickerson threw all 5 innings only giving up 3 hits. This makes Emily Anderson possibly available to close out the weekend on Sunday.

The Yellow Jackets need to come out of this weekend feeling good with a 4-1 record. Having a midweek game against a good Georgia State team coming up before hosting ACC power house Florida State. This will be a very telling week for the program and can serve as a measuring stick going forward as the Seminoles are the team to beat in the ACC.

Tech plays another game against Santa Clara Sunday at 1:00 ET.
