The Yellow Jackets won another ACC series over the weekend taking two out three from Duke and now will look to use that momentum in their midweek game traveling to Kennesaw State.

During the Duke series the Yellow Jackets got their season back on track. They carried a 6 game losing streak into the weekend and then dropped game one, 2-1 in 8 on Friday. Then as part of a double header the Jackets found themselves quickly down 3-0 in game 2.

Staring down the barrel of an 8 game losing streak and worse a series loss Tech senior Draven Sonnon sparked the offense with a solo shot. After the Jackets tied the game at 3 in the 6th, Cameron Stanford hit a home run in the 7th to give the Jackets a 4-3 win and escape the day with a chance to win the series.

Due to weather the Jackets had a day off on Saturday waiting for their third game against the Blue Devils on Sunday. They made sure to get their work in though and it proved to help as the Jackets gained quick control of game 3.

Emily Anderson pitched a gem of a game which is expected, what I found impressive on the weekend was Brooke Barfield coming on in relief on 2 separate occasions and holding the Blue Devils down in both. A step in the right direction for the sophomore who has had her share of struggles this season. Proving this weekend that coach Morales can count on her to come in and save some work from Anderson is a big deal. The Jackets won game 3 5-3.

Now Tech looks to their midweek game. Still in the midst of 7 games on the road Tech travels to Kennesaw State on Wednesday. This will be Tech’s second meeting with Kennesaw, the first in Atlanta was won by the Jackets 9-0 in 5 innings.

Emily Anderson threw 5 innings only giving up 3 hits. While Alley Cutting started for Kennesaw, a pitcher the Jackets really struggled with last season. It wasn’t the same story this time around as Cutting only threw 1 inning and gave up 6 runs on 5 hits. I would imagine Kennesaw will throw Cutting again, she’s their ace, and they would like nothing more than to grab this win.

The Jackets on the other hand may throw Naomi Dickerson, who had a good outing against Duke. Dickerson is a pitcher Kennesaw hasn’t seen yet, and it would give Emily Anderson a chance to be fresh heading into the Pitt series. Coach Morales has gotten pretty consistent with her lineup, which is the goal now in the season. The Jackets need this win to stay confident heading into a series vs Pittsburgh who is ahead of them in the coastal division. First pitch on Wednesday is set for 6:00.
