In a mock draft released today by Fangraph’s, Georgia Tech catcher Joey Bart is a top-10 pick.

Georgia Tech star catcher Joey Bart has been a potential first round pick for almost a year now. The junior is hitting .366/.483/.641 on the season with 11 home runs and 24 RBI. Bart has also collected 29 walks on the season while just striking out 35 times.

On Thursday, popular baseball stats and info website FanGraph’s released their first mock draft of the 2018 season. The site has Bart as a top-10 pick, landing with the Oakland Athletics with the ninth overall pick.

That being said, Bart could go even higher in the draft than ninth. According to FanGraphs, the San Francisco Giants have interest in Bart with their second overall pick. The Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets who own the fifth and sixth picks respectively also have interest in potentially drafting Bart this upcoming June.

The lowest Bart appears to be going at this point is 10th overall where the Pittsburgh Pirates sit. According to the mock draft, if Bart is still there at 10th overall, he will be the Pirates draft pick.

With Bart appearing to not only be a lock for the first round but a lock as a top-10 pick that means that the Buford, Georgia native will become just the 11th first round pick in Georgia Tech history. He will be the first player to do so since Deck McGuire in 2010 when he went 11th overall to the Toronto Blue Jays.

If Bart does land with the San Francisco Giants at second overall, Bart will be the highest draft pick in Georgia Tech history. Former Tech great Kevin Brown currently holds the honor as he went fourth overall in 1986.

If he goes top five in the draft, he will be the first player since another Georgia Tech catching great in Matt Wieters. Wieters went fifth overall in to the Baltimore Orioles in 2007.

No matter where he ends up, Bart is looking to be the next catcher in a long line of Georgia Tech greats to make the transition from Russ Chandler Stadium to the Major Leagues. After Bart leaves, the next great may not be too far behind him as Kyle McCann is coming into his own this season.
