In the Wednesday edition of our tri-weekly update, we quickly discuss the Jackets offering a fast-rising but underrated cornerback and an Atlanta native has released a list of his top schools.

The last few days on the recruiting trail have been a little quiet in terms of good news for the Yellow Jackets. Running back target Jamious Griffin committed to NC State on Monday which means the Yellow Jackets search for a B-Back in the class will continue.

That being said, the Jackets have entered the recruitment of an underrated South Carolina recruit while they landed in a new top schools list by one of their defensive line targets.

Jackets offer fast rising South Carolina recruit:

The Georgia Tech football program offered South Carolina cornerback Cameron Smith on Tuesday, the most recent offer for the fast rising but underrated recruit from Blythewood, South Carolina.

Smith, who is unranked by 247Sports but is ranked as a three-star recruit by Rivals has received a score of offers recently including offers from programs like Florida State and Tennessee. With a total of 23 offers, Smith has seen his options grow from mostly group of five programs to having the possibility of playing in a power five conference.

While Smith hasn’t announced any visits publicly on his Twitter program, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him take visits to all three of the recent power five programs including the Yellow Jackets that offered him.

The Yellow Jackets timing of their offer could play a factor down the road in terms of their chances with Smith. Chances are Smith will continue to receive offers from power five programs which could make his recruitment interesting this summer.

Smith has yet to set a decision date for his recruitment.

Atlanta area DE announces top 9 schools:

Atlanta native and Georgia Tech defensive end prospect Mataio Soli has announced his top nine schools as he looks to get closer to a decision. Soli, a native of Douglasville is ranked as a three-star defensive end by 247Sports and a top-75 defensive end in the country.

One of 17 defensive end’s Georgia Tech is currently recruiting, Soli represents one of the better chances for the Jackets to land a commitment from. Another name to watch on the defensive line recruiting trail is Florida’s Mario Kendricks Jr.

Georgia Tech’s co-offensive line Ron West is Soli’s primary recruiter and currently the Yellow Jackets don’t have any defensive end commits in their 2019 recruiting class. Currently, Arkansas is considerd the favorite to land Soli as his father played for the Razorbacks in the 90s.
