2) How big will the 2018 season be for Paul Johnson’s future on The Flats in your important?

Dylan:

I think it’s fair to say that it would take a really bad season or two more seasons is what it would take for Paul Johnson to even be remotely close to being fired. So in a way, 2018 is an important season for Johnson as there are fans who are upset after missing bowl games two of the last three years. The Jackets are in a strong place under Johnson since coming to The Flats in 2008 and they will remain a solid power 5 program under him for the foreseeable future. I’m not sure they’ll ever be ACC contenders year in and year out again under him but they’ll always be a competitive team to say the least. That being said, the season will be important for Johnson in terms of having a bounce back season.

Blake:

I  think Paul Johnson will retire from Georgia Tech and the 2018 season would have to be incredibly bad for CPJ to be fired.

Anthony:

Even though CPJ just signed a huge contract I think 2018 will be an important year for his perception. After winning an Orange Bowl in 2014 the football program has been on a decline.  Which is difficult to swallow because it seemed as if that Orange Bowl victory was going to be a spring board of success. I’m not saying it’s Orange Bowl or bust for CPJ but for him to appease the fans the Jackets have to better than a 7-5 campaign. A 9 win season would be huge.

Lee:

I think that in terms of Coach Johnson and his future, it would take something truly horrible for him to be moved. I think stability is the word of the day in athletics, and Johnson is certainly that in my mind. I also feel it would be a good idea as fans to allow the new improvements to both overall staff and facilities to take place before passing judgement. He’s out performed himself without those things, so let’s give him an opportunity to really flex the muscle behind the new improvements.
