Georgia Tech Football Recruiting: ATH Jalon Calhoun commits to Tech
Georgia Tech’s second commitment on Thursday night came from South Carolina as athlete Jalon Calhoun committed.
Georgia Tech’s second commitment on Thursday night game from three-star athlete Jalon Calhoun. He joined three-star linebacker Ahdarrious Gee, a former South Carolina commitment.
A three-star recruit from Greenville, South Carolina and Southside High School, Calhoun is the seventh commitment of the 2019 class. Recruited by safeties coach Shiel Wood, Calhoun was offered by the program on Wednesday before committing on Thursday night.
Calhoun is Wood’s second commitment of the recruiting class joining OT Larry Dowd. Wood has only been at Tech a short time but has made his presence felt on the recruiting trail.
Calhoun is rated by 247Sports’ consensus rankings as a three-star recruit and one of the top-20 players in the state of South Carolina.

With a rather smaller offer sheet, Calhoun is one of the lower recruit commitments in the class so far. That being said, Penn State recently offered the South Carolina native and with Penn State being considered one of the best programs in terms of evaluating talent, it shows that there is definitely a piece of Calhoun’s game that can make him a valuable player at the power five level. The Yellow Jackets coaching staff most likely saw similar traits in Calhoun.
Next: Jackets earn commitment #6
While we would usually take a quick look at a commitments highlight tape, we’re going to hold off for now as we wait to find out where the Jackets seem him playing on The Flats.
Last season, the 5-foot-11, 177-pound athlete played quarterback for Southside High School. That being said a look at his film shows that he is an incredibly gifted athlete.
While he will need to take big strides in some aspects of his game, his overall skill set will give the Jackets the ability to move him around and use him in numerous ways. Overall, Calhoun has the chance to be a versatile weapon for the Jackets who could use his speed and athleticism to create big plays no matter if he’s in on offense, defense, or special teams.
