The Georgia Tech football program landed their sixth commitment in the 2019 recruiting class on Thursday from in-state linebacker Ahdarrious Gee.

Crisp County linebacker Ahdarrious Gee decided it was time to end his recruitment on Thursday night when announced his commitment to Georgia Tech. The three-star linebacker announced his commitment to the Jackets via his Twitter account.

Gee’s commitment comes a few months after decommitting from the University of South Carolina. He was originally the Gamecocks first commitment in the 2019 recruiting class when he committed back in July of last year.

Since decommiting from South Carolina, the Yellow Jackets have been considered one of the favorites to land the Cordele, Georgia. According to his 247Sports profile, inside linebackers coach Andy McCollum was Gee’s primary recruiter.

Gee is McCollum’s first commitment in the 2019 recruiting class.  Last year, McCollum was able to land multiple top recruits for the Yellow Jackets including James Graham and Jaylon King.

Gee held 10 offers prior to his commitment with programs such as Indiana, Kentucky, Miss State, N.C State, and Vanderbilt also offering the Crisp County native.  Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee also all showed some interest in Gee but ultimately never offered.

On the Field:

At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, Gee is off to a strong start in terms of his physical traits. While he will need to add more weight before he takes the field on The Flats, the framework is there for him to be a successful linebacker and still keep the speed that makes him such a valuable outside linebacker. For comparison, only one of the Jackets current linebackers are under 200-pounds with Jaquon Henderson coming in at 197-pounds.

A look at his HUDL highlight tape shows that the rising high school senior has tremendous speed for a linebacker that allows him to be both a great pass rusher and strong coverage linebacker. With a real knack for finding the ball, Gee is a physical tackler who is not afraid to hit members of the opposing offense hard but also shows the ability to be a strong tackler.

His highlight tape also shows his ability to keep his eyes on a ball carrier, find a route, and get to the ball carrier for the tackle. While there is still work obviously to be done for Gee, he has plenty of time to refine his skills before he even steps on campus.

Overall, the foundation and fundamentals to be an All-ACC caliber linebacker for Gee is there, it’s only a matter of if he can put it all together once he arrives on The Flats. He could also ultimately end being one of the more underrated recruits in the class. Based off his current skill set it seems that the best role suited for Gee would be, being a pass-rush first outside linebacker, using his speed to get by defenders both inside and along the outside.

Gee’s commitment is the sixth commitment in the Jackets’ 2019 recruiting class and is now the second highest rated recruit in the class only behind wide receiver Zach Owens. A three-star consensus outside linebacker, Gee is considered one of the top-900 players in the country, top-40 linebackers, and top-100 players in the state of Georgia.
